Membership & Participation

What if I feel like I don't have anything to offer?

Everyone has something—our community can help you discover it.

How do we build confidence system-wide?

Members can earn badges based on exchange quality and consistency.

Can a member go into a negative balance?

No. Time credits must be earned before being spent.

Can I transfer time credits to another person or organization?

Yes, if they’re a member. Just record an exchange.

Why do we pay an annual fee? What is it used for?

To fund software, events, staffing, and basic operational needs.

What happens if I do not renew my annual fee?

Your account will be frozen for 3 months, then closed if unpaid.

What happens if I let my membership go stagnant?

You’ll get reminders; long-term inactivity may prompt a check-in.

Do I have to have web access to operate as an active member?

Yes, but you can use shared devices or partner with someone for support.

What area, scope, and population does Taos Time Bank serve?

All of Taos County, aiming for 300+ members and room to grow.

Why does Taos Time Bank only enroll new members twice a year?

Onboarding happens during Spring and Fall training cohorts to build trust and community.

Why do members have to start by giving time to an Anchor Organization?

It’s how you earn your first credits and support the community from the start.

Time Credits & Exchanges

What if my skills are more valuable on the open market?

You don’t have to offer those—share other skills you enjoy.

In exchanges involving materials, who pays for expenses?

The recipient pays; agree in advance to avoid confusion.

Can I donate time credits to a pool for others?

Yes—transfer to “TimePot,” managed by the steering committee.

What if I want to donate time credits to those in need?

You can transfer them to the Time Pot account.

Can I sell goods/products on the time bank?

No, only human services can be exchanged.

Isn’t one service hour worth more than another?

Not in the time bank—everyone’s time is valued equally.

How much money is a time credit worth?

Time credits have no cash value—1 hour equals 1 hour.

Do time credits expire?

Not officially, but we encourage using them within a year.

Are time credits taxable?

No, they’re non-commercial and IRS-exempt.

How is an exchange of time credits made?

One member records it; the other confirms it.

What are time credits?

They track time you give or receive, always equal to 1 hour per credit.

Safety, Conflicts & Responsibility

If I don’t have a device, can someone help me stay connected?

Yes, partner with another member or use shared tech.

What keeps members honest with time credits?

All exchanges must be mutually agreed upon and are tracked.

What if another member becomes inappropriate or dangerous?

Contact us and/or law enforcement if needed.

What if I am not happy with another member’s service?

Email hello@taostimebank.org with clear, specific details.

What about liability?

You’re responsible, like when helping a neighbor.

What about safety?

We verify ID and ask for disclosures; background checks may come later.
