A More Connected Way to Grow Your Business

Most of us rely on money for almost everything. It’s how we solve problems and access support. But not everything valuable fits neatly into a price tag, and not all support needs to come through a financial transaction. Especially in a place like Taos, where relationships matter, that kind of exchange carries real weight.

Being part of the Taos TimeBank has shown me there’s another layer that exists alongside the cash economy. It doesn’t replace money or business, but it does create a different way of exchanging value that supports both your life and your work.

Where Trust Comes From

For anyone running a business, trust is one of the hardest things to build. In the TimeBank, it happens naturally.

Instead of promoting yourself, people experience how you show up. They see your reliability, your skill set, and how you engage with others. Over time, that builds trust that’s hard to replicate through ads or outreach.

That trust often turns into paid opportunities. People refer you, think of you when something comes up, and are more likely to work with you because they already know you.

There’s also a practical layer. When you offer services through the TimeBank, it’s completely reasonable to ask for a testimonial or a Google review. Those are incredibly impactful when you’re building credibility, and the TimeBank gives you a way to earn them through real interactions.

My Experience

I’ve experienced this directly. Through the TimeBank, I’ve received craniosacral sessions, EFT, and coaching, all of which would typically cost $100 or more per hour and have had a real impact on my well-being.

In exchange, I offer website and systems consulting. It’s work I love and a skillset I know brings real value.

What stands out is that all time is valued equally. An hour is an hour, whether it’s deep healing work or technical support. That’s not something most of us are used to, and it shifts how you see your own contributions and others’.

Because I’ve experienced the quality of work that people provide, I trust them. I know their skill sets and trust their work, which makes it easy for me to refer them. That kind of trust-based referral goes both ways. And over time, that becomes a reliable way to grow.

From Transactions to Relationships

Over time, you’re no longer operating in isolation. You become part of a local network where people know you, trust you, and are invested in each other’s well-being.

That kind of visibility is hard to buy, but it’s often what sustains small businesses long-term, especially in a place like Taos.

Start Small

If you’re interested, start small. Offer something you enjoy or feel confident in, ask for something you need, and see what starts to open up.

If you haven’t joined yet, you can learn more and sign up through the Taos TimeBank and start experiencing it for yourself.
