More Than an Exchange: Finding Community

Each TimeBank activity I’ve participated in has been meaningful in its own way. Working with a group at an Anchor Organization event provides a great feeling of community, and a lot can be accomplished by a few people in a few hours. Individual exchanges often lead to interesting conversations and learning something about the life of someone you might not otherwise have met. Time banking isn’t just a way to exchange services; it’s an authentic and often touching social interaction. Some of my favorite TimeBank moments recently, though, are Anchor Organization service events that I’ve both organized and participated in. It’s very gratifying to be working alongside folks and know that they’re there because you put out the call. The July 4th Arroyo Seco Community Celebration was one of those. Half a dozen members answered that call, some were there the entire day, and the event was a big success.
